I was born and raised in the Catskill Mtns. but grew up in the Hudson Valley, from ages 10 thru 22, in New Windsor, NY; about 8 miles north of the USMA at West Point. I loved the area, halfway between the Catskills and the ocean shore. The Hudson Valley is a very beautiful, scenic area in it's own right especially as you go south of Newburgh into the Hudson Highlands, which stretch from Cornwall to Haverstraw Bay. In that stretch, the Hudson River is considered a fijord, plunging to great depth while drastically narrowing. The mountains can leave you breathless, especially the overlook along the highway on Storm King Mtn. between Cornwall and West Point. The book gives a very interesting account of the biodiversity, history and romance the Hudson has to offer.
